Our Prayer Chaplains will lead a prayer vigil in our sanctuary from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. At 7:00 p.m. we will have a prayer service presented by Rev. Mary, Rev. Marge Reid, and our Unity Prayer Chaplain team including co-coordinators, Rev. Allaurah Olson and Margo Downey. You may come in anytime during the prayer vigil and stay for as long or short a time as you like. Jazz at Unity Presents: the Paul Smoker Trio
Jazz at Unity of Buffalo is pleased to present trumpeter Paul Smoker and his band.
Come join us for an evening of interpretations of big band standards.
$10 suggested donation, refreshments provided.
Paul Smoker grew up in Davenport, Iowa, and moved to Chicago to play professionally. He worked there in the 1960s, playing with Bobby Christian among others. He took his doctorate at the University of Iowa in 1974, and taught at Coe College from 1976 to 1990, as well as for shorter periods at the University of Iowa, the University of Northern Iowa, and the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh.
In the 1980s and 1990s, Smoker worked with musicians such as Anthony Braxton, Gregg Bendian, Damon Short, Randy McKean, and Phil Haynes. He was a member of Joint Venture, who recorded for Enja Records in the late 1980s and early 1990s. His records issued on CIMP in the 1990s feature sidemen such as Vinny Golia, Ken Filiano, and Steve Salerno.
Outside of jazz, Smoker is also involved in the performance of contemporary classical music, in his university capacities and with the SOMA ensemble. He has worked out of upstate New York since 1990.

Our Prayer Chaplains meet one Thursday per month.Chaplains are available for one-on-one prayer support after our Sunday services. Our Chaplains do four things: hold spiritual space with you, lovingly listen, pray one-on- one with you, and hold what is heard in absolute confidence. Marvelous Metaphysical Movies - One Friday night per month, from September through May. Marvelous Metaphysical Movies is on Summer Siesta for June through August. We will start up again in the fall. PeopleArt Coffeehouse - Fridays at 9 p.m. Featuring performances by local and regional folk musicians, singers and songwriters -- all original music. $5.
