Who We Are -- Mission, Vision, and More

Our Mission

Unity Church in Buffalo is a teaching, healing ministry which exists to foster the spiritual growth and transformation of individuals and to raise human consciousness to the realization of oneness with God.

We practice prayer, meditation, forgiveness, love and spiritual thinking as ways to express the divine potential within each individual.

Our Vision

We are a diverse spiritual community empowering growth and transformation.

More About Us

Unity in Buffalo was founded in June of 1944. Our church was incorporated as Unity Center of Practical Christianity, which was amended in 1967 to Unity Church of Practical Christianity.

We offer prayer services (Sunday worship at 10 a.m. and Wednesday Noon Prayer service), prayer support from trained Chaplains, spiritual counseling, regular groups (i.e. A Course In Miracles and Reiki), special events, concerts, an art gallery showcasing local and regional artists, opportunities to share creative expressions, community service (including an active VOICE-Buffalo core team, green space and garden teams), special services (i.e. weddings, holy unions, memorial services, funerals, christenings), a great music program, friends, fun and fellowship - and much more!

We are committed to living from that place of knowing that our prayers have already been answered.

We believe in the innate goodness of all people ("original virtue") and that we all have a great untapped potential within us waiting to be called upon.

We believe in the power of prayer and the power of our positive thoughts, words and deeds to make a profound difference in the world.

What is Unity?

Unity is a worldwide spiritual movement of churches and study centers in every state within the USA and on every continent in the world. It is a spiritual, educational organization founded more than 100 years ago in Kansas City, Missouri. Based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, Unity offers a practical approach to Christianity that helps people find deeper spiritual meaning in their lives and "live life more abundantly." We consider ourselves trans-denominational because we honor the many paths to knowing God in the world. Through Unity's ministries, people all over the world are provided with positive, spiritual messages of hope, healing, prosperity and peace.

Unity publishes the well-known monthly publication, Daily Word, a magazine of daily inspirational messages that goes out to millions around the world.

Unity's Basic Teachings

1) There is only One Presence and One Power in the universe and in my life: God the Good, omnipotent.
2) The Spirit of God indwells every person. "Christ in you, the hope of glory." - Col. 1:27
3) We create our experience of the world through the activity of our thinking. Everything in the manifest realm has its beginning in thought.
4) Prayer and meditation are our daily practices for connection with God's loving presence.
5) Understanding these principles is not enough - we seek to live them in every area of our lives.

For further information, please visit the Association of Unity Churches web site. We particularly recommend the AUC's section on The 20 Questions Most Often Asked About Unity.

Sunday Celebration Service at Unity Buffalo is at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Friendship Hour with light refreshments. For those with children, we have a Youth Education program in our downstairs area during the service. Four times per year there is a potluck lunch after our service. All are welcome to attend our services and other activities. Please join us so we can get to know you and you can get to know us.

Recent and upcoming Sunday service lesson titles are listed below.

We also offer a Weekly Prayer and Meditation Service each Wednesday at noon. This service is modeled after Silent Unity's prayer services held at Unity Village, Missouri. Silent Unity is the international prayer ministry of Unity that was founded in 1890.

Our team of Prayer Chaplains provide one-on-one prayer support after every Sunday service, wellness calling to church members, and are available during the week by phone. If you have a prayer request, you may phone us at (716) 882-0391, leave a message on our Prayer Chaplains' voice mailbox (#3) and one of our Chaplains will return your call to hold prayer space with you. When visiting the church, you may leave a prayer request in the Prayer Chest located in our sanctuary.

Silent Unity also accepts prayer requests through its Telephone Prayer Ministry, at: 1-800-NOW-PRAY (669-7729). Phones at Silent Unity are answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All prayer requests received at our church and at Silent Unity are considered sacred and are held in the strictest confidentiality.

Pastoral visits may be requested of our minister and/or our Chaplains team.
