Tibetan Monks coming to Unity of Buffalo July 2018SANG-SOL - Smoke or Incense Offering Ceremony

7:15 - 8:30 p.m.

Smoke Offering or Incense Offering (Sang-Sol) is a traditional Tibetan national custom performed while hanging colorful prayer flags to mark happy occasions of religious and secular nature such as on the New Year (Losar), birthday of the Dalai Lama, or at the beginning of a celebration for a religious or secular festival of national importance or picnic.
Following a particular standard text of ritual and prayer sung with music and meditation, this ceremony is conducted to enhance well- being, fortune and to purify the environment. It is also performed to clear obstacles and create smooth passage for fulfilling tasks or goals of significant nature as well as for invoking and raising the spirit of all non-human forces of the positive side, and to call for their support and company. At the conclusion of the ceremony, everyone lines up in a semi-circular form and throws a handful of tsampa in the air amidst shouting KI KI SO SO LHA GYAL LO (Hurrah and hail the spirit of divine forces) in most festive manner followed by customary folk songs and dances.
Requirements: For offering: Incense, flower, candle, fruit, black tea and water
