Unity of Buffalo Youth and Family Ministry (YFM) Sets Sail!

In the words of Unity Co-Founder, Myrtle Fillmore: “Our mission is not to entertain the children, but to call them out.  To be always entertained is to be dwarfed and dependent.  To be ‘called out’ is to follow the harmonious law of the soul’s unfoldment.  Who meddles with the rosebud?  What fingers are deft enough to pry open that marvel of folded beauty?  We are wise enough to leave it alone to follow the glad law of its own unfolding, but our children!  Have we dealt as wisely with these buds of marvelous possibilities?  Have we always remembered that they, too, must quicken and unfold through the innate law of their own genius?”
As the adventure into the “terra incognita” of the YFM Director role begins, I am quickly reminded that this divine appointment is not about me.  But it is incumbent upon me, and any prospective leaders, to provide the best environment for each child in the YFM program to express their spiritual potential, while growing in the awareness of their Christ identity.  Who is to know how the Christ will express in any child?  The adventure is in facilitating the means for each of their unfoldment, then delighting in their success.

Our journey began the first Sunday in October with Lesson 1, “Starting Over – You can begin again…again…again” of the Uniteens Quest Part 1 Living Curriculum, and evolved organically throughout the month as attendance varied.  Lesson 1 explored the concept of a quest, how to make the best of one’s journey, and the challenges we might face as we venture into unknown territory.
In November the Quest will take us through Lesson 2, “Friends – Creating Your Spiritual Support Group” and into Lesson 3, “What God Is – Defining the Indefinable.”  In December we will take an excursion into the celebration of Advent.
How blessed we are that the birth and infancy of Unity of Buffalo’s Youth and Family Ministry coincides with the 2018 Christmas season.  A catalyst for our journey, we flow with the current of the story of God’s love and embrace this opportunity to guide our children in their spiritual unfoldment.  As they grow in their awareness of God’s unlimited store and express themselves in kind, we are blessed.
Thank you, Unity of Buffalo Congregation, for all your well wishes and support as the YFM ventures forward on The Quest.
