Unity in Buffalo was founded in June of 1944. Our church was incorporated as Unity Center of Practical Christianity, which was amended in 1967 to Unity Church of Practical Christianity. Our building was built during the late 1950s and was dedicated on February 23, 1958.
We offer prayer services (Sunday worship at 10 a.m. and Wednesday Noon Prayer service), a Youth Education program for ages 5-11, prayer support from trained Chaplains, spiritual counseling, regular groups (including A Course In Miracles and Emotional Freedom Techniques), special events, concerts, an art gallery showcasing local and regional artists, opportunities to share creative expressions, community service (including an active VOICE-Buffalo core team), our Unity Peace Park with a gazebo and labyrinth, special services (i.e. weddings, holy unions, memorial services, funerals, christenings), great music, friends, fun and fellowship - and much more!
What is Unity?
Unity is a worldwide spiritual movement of churches and study centers in every state within the USA and on every continent in the world. It is a spiritual, educational organization founded more than 100 years ago in Kansas City, Missouri. Based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, Unity offers a practical approach to Christianity that helps people find deeper spiritual meaning in their lives and "live life more abundantly." We consider ourselves trans-denominational because we honor the many paths to knowing God in the world. Through Unity's ministries, people all over the world are provided with positive, spiritual messages of hope, healing, prosperity and peace.
Unity publishes the well-known monthly publication, Daily Word, a magazine of daily inspirational messages that goes out to millions around the world.
Unity's Basic Teachings
1) There is only One Presence and One Power in the universe and in my life: God the Good, omnipotent.
In late 2012, Unity of Buffalo completed its third year of participating in The Transformation Experience -- a three-year pilot program of the Association of Unity Churches. It is a whole-ministry transformational initiative designed to create thriving ministries and enlightened leaders. This full-community engagement facilitates a measurable shift in a ministry's capacity to fulfill its mission and co-create a world that works for all. The TE program integrates the wisdom and divine consciousness of the Unity movement with the leading-edge practice of the Thriving Ministry Model. About a dozen other Unity ministries also participated from 2009-2012.
Sunday Celebration Service at Unity Buffalo is at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Friendship Hour with light refreshments. For those with children, we have a Youth Education program in our kids area during the service. (We are currently accommodating ages 5 through 11 for Sunday School.) Four times per year there is a potluck lunch after our service. All are welcome to attend our services and other activities. Please join us so we can get to know you and you can get to know us.
Additional Prayer Opportunities
We offer a Weekly Prayer and Meditation Service each Wednesday at noon. This service is modeled after Silent Unity's prayer services held at Unity Village, Missouri. Silent Unity is the international prayer ministry of Unity that was founded in 1890.
Our team of Unity Prayer Chaplains provides one-on-one prayer support after every Sunday service, wellness calling to church members, and are available during the week by phone. If you have a prayer request, you may phone us at (716) 882-0391, leave a message on our Prayer Chaplains' voice mailbox (#3) and one of our Chaplains will return your call to hold prayer space with you. When visiting the church, you may leave a prayer request in the Prayer Chest located in our sanctuary. You may also email your prayer requests to us.
Silent Unity also accepts prayer requests through its Telephone Prayer Ministry, at: 1-800-NOW-PRAY (669-7729). Phones at Silent Unity are answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All prayer requests received at our church and at Silent Unity are considered sacred and are held in the strictest confidentiality.
Pastoral visits may be requested of our minister and/or our Chaplains team.
Rev. Mary Masters has been senior minister at Unity of Buffalo since 2003. She was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Association of Unity Churches International (now known as Unity Worldwide Ministries) in 2009 and currently serves as Board Chair. Rev. Mary's passion for organizational development, financial responsibility and spiritual leadership are demonstrated through her ministry, her five years on the board of the Association's Eastern Region, and in service in the Buffalo community. She has a bachelor's degree in political science and organizational behavior, and a master's degree in managerial communications. She was a Licensed Unity Teacher prior to ordination. Rev. Mary is available for spiritual counseling, prayer support, and to perform special services including: weddings, holy union and commitment ceremonies, celebration of life services (memorials), christenings, house blessings, and other customized rite of passage ceremonies to meet your needs.

The famed 26,000 year Mayan Calendar comes to an end on December 21st, 2012. Some believe and have taught that this foretold the end of time; however, we in Unity and the New Thought Movement believe it signals the awakening of the human mind to a greater reality. Birth 2012 events took place at Unity and New Thought Centers all around the world. Unity of Buffalo is celebrating the coming of this evolution of consciousness too.
Are you willing to see beyond the crises of our world and help build a positive future? You're invited to join countless others in a global renaissance - a declaration that something is ending and a new era in human culture is beginning.
